(A) Location and Jurisdiction:
Awadhesh
Pratap Singh University, established on
the 20th of July, 1968, has
been named after Captain Awadhesh Pratap
Singh, the first Prime Minister of the
erstwhile Vindhya Pradesh, a
distinguished son of the soil and a
freedom fighter. The University has
established with its headquarter at Rewa
by on Act of Madhya Pradesh State
legislature on the 17th
October, 1969. The UGC recognized this
University in February 1972 and it is a
member of the Association of Indian
Universities (AIU) and the All
Commonwealth Association of Universities
(ACAU).
The A.P.S. University is a
teaching-cum–affiliating University with
its Jurisdiction over 85 colleges
situated in the districts of Rewa, Sidhi,
Satna, Shahdol, Umaria and Anuppur. The
University conducts Sanksrit Prachya
Paddhati Pariksha for the entire state
of Madhya Pradesh.
There are 13 departments of Post
Graduate teaching in the University.
Teaching facilities for M.A., M.Sc.,
M.Phil. , Ph.d., D.Lit. and D.Sc. are
provided through these departments. A
number of self supporting job oriented
courses is being run by the various
departments of the university.
The University is located on a 250
acres plot of land on Rewa-Sirmour road
at a distance of about 5 Kms., with its
campus spread over either side of the
Rewa-Sirmour Road. Besides the
Administrative Block the University
complex includes the departments of
Environmental Biology, Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematical Science,
Humanities Block, Computer Science
Building, Computer Center Building, MBA
building, USIC, Museum, Library,
Ambedkar Bhawan, Guest House, Hostel for
Boys and Girls, Auditorium, Stadium,
Bank, Post Office, Staff Quarters,
Gymnasium Hall, Yoga Hall, Community
Hall, Quarters for Yoga instructors and
Faculty Hostel.
(B) Central Library:
The University has got a Central
library. Attempts are regularly made to
procure standard publications. Apart
from this, each teaching department has
its own departmental library.
(C) Computer Centre:
Computer Centre has been established in
the University with the financial
support of the UGC. Campus wide APSULAN
has been established. The University
result is being processed and published
on the NET by the Centre. Computer
centre conducts various short term
computer courses besides three year BCA
course.
(D) University Science instrumentation
Centre (USIC):
University Grants Commission has
provided a central University Science
Instrumentation Centre of the
University. It has facilities for the
repair of electronic instruments, glass
blowing and mechanical works. The centre
plans to start short term courses in
electronics, glass blowing and welding.
(E) Indira Gandhi National Open
University: Study Centre
The Study Centre of Indira Gandhi
National Open University, New Delhi
provides learning opportunities in
various courses of IGNOU. Large number
of students are getting opportunities to
study general and specialized courses.
(F) Rural Division of Environmental
Planning and co-ordination Organization
(EPCO Rural), Govt. of Madhya Pradesh :
Environmental Planning and Co-ordination
Organization, the first of its kind in
the country, has established its Rural
division in the University in 1982.
Vice-Chancellor of the University is its
Chairman. The activities include
identification, survey and research on
various problems of rural sector. This
provides a unique opportunity for close
interaction between academic
institutions and government departments.
(G) Tribal Studies, Gandhian & Buddhist
Study Centres :
The university has established the
centres of Tribal Studies, Gandhian &
Buddhist Study Centres with the
sanction of University Grant Commission,
New Delhi. These centres are engaged in
research work in respective areas.
(H) Antarbharati Cultural Centre:
Antarbharti is autonomous cultural
centre of the University established
with the support of Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Govt. of India.
Vice-Chancellor of the university is its
Patron. This centre is established
basically for the presentation and
training in Dance, Music, Drama and
Painting of Deeksha, Preksha and Veeksha
Divisions.
(I) U.G.C. INFONET :
In order to provide internet facility
to University Teaching Departments and
networking of affiliated colleges, 256
KBPS VSAT facility has been established
by UGC under U.G.C. Infonet Programme in
this University.
(J) Seismological Observatory:
As a national programme to "Upgrade the
network of seismological observatories
in Indian shield region" 10
observatories have been established in
various parts of India. Indian institute
of Geomagnetism (IIG) has been assigned
the responsibility to establish the two
seismological observatories at Rewa (M.P.)
and Kolhapur (Maharashtra). Rewa
Seismological observatory has been
functioning from April 2000. The main
objective of this observatory is to
collect the continuous earthquake data,
analyse them and send it to IIG Mumbai
and National Seismological Data Centre (NSDC)
New Delhi.
(K) Pre-Examination Coaching Centre
(for SCs, OBCs & Minorities)
Pre-examination coaching centre in the
University is running since 1983-84 with
the financial assistance of Ministry of
Social Justice & empowerment. Govt. of
India, New Delhi. Under this scheme
candidates who have passed (10+2)
examination belonging to SCs, OBCs &
Minority candidates are admitted on the
basis of merit. The trainees are also
eligible to get scholarship as per rule.
the training is provided for clarical
grade/class III services for the period
of 3-4 months.
